Advent wreath and Nursery promises, by Mrs Hall

Date: 7th Dec 2017 @ 10:43pm

The Nursery children were delighted to find out about the  Advent wreath -  a popular Catholic custom that originated in Germany. They found out that the wreath consists of four candles (three purple, signifying penance, and one rose, signifying joy), surrounded by evergreen branches which represents God's everlasting love.

The light of the candles signifies the light of Christ, Who will come into the world at Christmas.

The children also thought carefully how they could be kind and helpful and made special promises which they placed on our Christmas tree.

Year 5 Planting Trees, by Miss Percival

Date: 6th Dec 2017 @ 3:35pm

Year 5 got very muddy this week when they helped to plant new trees in our school's outdoor space. We were very lucky to have 'City of trees in conjunction with the Woodland Trust' come in to school to help us with this very exciting project. Not only did we learn lots of interesting facts about why trees are so important to us but we got to plant them and help begin their journey growing as part of our outdoor garden. The trees will grow into a small orchard and will additionally create a hedgerow along the car park area. We planted a number of different types of trees. It was a privilege for year 5 to take a part in such a great project! We look forward to seeing them grow...
