The Reading Council
Read Manchester and the BookBench project
We are really excited to announce a fantastic project we are involved in as part of the Read Manchester campaign, a project which celebrates the city’s creativity and encourages children and adults to read for enjoyment.
We are inviting all of the children to create a design for our BookBench sculpture with designs inspired by a favourite book, poem, author or comic and a template is available to download from the website if you have misplaced the one you were given. All entries should be returned to school no later than Friday 31st March and everyone who enters will receive a prize for their efforts. The winning design will be created on the bench and, once decorated, all of the benches will be displayed in cultural hubs, leisure and shopping centres throughout Manchester. Many of the venues will host activities and events throughout the summer holidays, and families will be able to discover the BookBenches by following a trail.
For additional information or for some inspiration and design ideas, visit www.thebigread.org.uk/bookbenches or speak to Mrs Murphy.
Good luck and get creative!
Thank you to all the children that took part in the Book Bench competition! All those that applied have now been awarded a book for taking part and the winners have been chosen. So congratulations to Ayda Jones (year 1) and Whitney Aiguokhian (year 6) who have been selected by the Reading Council and staff as the winners. Find out soon where our school book bench will be placed in the city of Manchester for all to see!
