The children in the EYFS were so excited to see the snow in our playground, they put on their wellies, coats, gloves and scarfs and went out to explore.

They had a great time exploring the snow, and even found some ice hiding underneath the snow!

The Nursery enjoyed the visit from Just Youth, they spoke to us about Lent, and we talked about how to be be kind, helpful and to love one another.

Chinese New Year celebrations in the EYFS, by Mrs Smith

The children in the EYFS have enjoyed taking part in many different activities to celebrate Chinese New Year, they also  sampled a variety of Chinese Foods.

The children had a wonderful afternoon, learning lots of new skills.

This week the Nursery began Chinese New Year celebrations with a dragon dance which is a highlight of Chinese New Year celebrations held worldwide in Chinatowns around the world.

The children enjoyed moving to the rhythm of the music and playing instruments.

They also enjoyed sampling Fortune cookies and playing in our Chinese Home role play area.

E-Safety in the EYFS , by Miss Howells

Today we held an E-Safety talk about how to be safe using technology at home and in school. We read the story of Smartie the Penguin and helped him make the right decisions when using his new iPad. We learned mummy penguin's song to help us remember what to do if we need help when using our own iPads, phones etc.. "Before you tap and click, you need to stop and think, and tell someone!" We are Scientists! In the EYFS!, by Mrs Hall

We  have been working in our laboratory and doing lots of fun and exciting experiments - we have been Scientists!!!

We did a number of experiments including floating and sinking - making predictions first and then trying different objects in the water. We thought about why things happen.

We have been using magnets and metal detectors, experimenting with chromatography - colour splitting, making bubbling volcanoes and finding out about decay and bacteria,

Our Lab is still open - do come and investigate!

Toy Tales - how do they work? How are they made?, by Mrs Hall

The Nursery children have been finding out how things work and why things happen.

They brought a favourite toy to School to discuss.  The children thought about the materials it was made from, and talked about how they moved or were used and where they came from?

We found out that there are different types of materials and that material parts can move in different ways.

We have great fun working with our Music Teacher, Mrs Booth.  We have been discovering our voices and learning about different instuments and how to play them at different volumes and speeds, together as part of a band.

We have been thinking about how we gather together to celebrate as a group in our School community and how we are much better working together!

He heard different requests from the boys and girls and told them to keep up the good work!

Parents, cares,  friends and family loved watching the EYFS  children performing “The Very Sleepy Shepherd,” a story about a lovable shepherd who just can’t keep awake until he hears the news of Jesus from the angel.  We are glad you could join him on his big adventure to see the newborn King this Christmas.

Advent wreath and Nursery promises, by Mrs Hall

The Nursery children were delighted to find out about the  Advent wreath -  a popular Catholic custom that originated in Germany. They found out that the wreath consists of four candles (three purple, signifying penance, and one rose, signifying joy), surrounded by evergreen branches which represents God's everlasting love. 

The light of the candles signifies the light of Christ, Who will come into the world at Christmas.

The children also thought carefully how they could be kind and helpful and made special promises which they placed on our Christmas tree.

The children in the EYFS have been busy writing letters to Father Christmas and developing their cutting skills by cutting pictures out of catalogues of what they would like for Christmas.

They have also been making snowmen at the snowmen factory

ELF Health and Safety Training for Parents/carers and children, by Mrs Hall

Parents, carers and children commented how beneficial they found the ELF Health and Safety Training provided by staff from Manchester Hospital and funded by Public Health Manchester.

Parents found out about accident prevention and how to deal with accidents and the children also found out about the Emergency services and how to stay safe too.

The Nursery children enjoyed preparing for their very first Advent in School with the Just Youth Team.

The nursery Children have enjoyed reading and acting out the story of 'Whatever next'.

Today they all brought their own teddies into school, and set off on a journey to the moon for their own picnic.

The children enjoyed acting the story out and loved the picnic!

Manchester City in the Community with Coach Lee, by Mrs Hall

The Nursery have been developing their physical skills with Coach Lee from Manchester City in the Community, Manchester City Football organisation.  The work has centred around our "Space" theme and has involved the children developing their spatial awareness "driving" round planet obstacles, changing height and directions and practising their ball skills.

The chidlren are really developing their co-ordination - thank you Coach Lee!

"Unplugged" a story in the Nursery, by Mrs Hall

The whole School has been studying  Steve Antony's book "Unplugged" and produced a variety of differet work.   This book illustrates the joy of being offline as well as online!  The Nursery children discussed  plugged and unplugged devices and  they acted out the story using props and had great fun making the main character, Blip, using 2D and 3D shapes and junk modelling.
