Year 5P visit to Jodrell Bank , by Miss Percival

Date: 18th Dec 2017 @ 1:59pm

On Friday the 15th December, Y5P took a trip to Jodrell Bank discovery Centre. In the Autumn term we have been learning all about Space in our science topic. We went to visit Jodrell bank to help us understand more about the solar system, stars and much more! When we first arrived we got to see how big the Lovell Telescope really is and were lucky enough to witness it move too! When we arrived, we went to our first workshop which had lots of experiments for us to carry out. We had to try and find out which rock was a real meteorite, measure the strength of the sun, measure how craters are made and what effects the size of them and we looked at the different weights of each planet. After this fun workshop we explored the Discovery Centre and found out lots of amazing facts. For the last part of our day, we went into a planetarium and observed the night sky and what stars are above us. We looked at the different constellations and what planets we can see too. We loved our day out and discovered lots about space!

Year 5 Planting Trees, by Miss Percival

Date: 6th Dec 2017 @ 3:35pm

Year 5 got very muddy this week when they helped to plant new trees in our school's outdoor space. We were very lucky to have 'City of trees in conjunction with the Woodland Trust' come in to school to help us with this very exciting project. Not only did we learn lots of interesting facts about why trees are so important to us but we got to plant them and help begin their journey growing as part of our outdoor garden. The trees will grow into a small orchard and will additionally create a hedgerow along the car park area. We planted a number of different types of trees. It was a privilege for year 5 to take a part in such a great project! We look forward to seeing them grow...

Year 5's Mannequin Challenge, by Miss Percival

Date: 29th Nov 2017 @ 6:56pm

In our English topic, we have been focusing on a text called, 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty. We are going to be writing in the style of this author and adapting the text to our own version of this sad Victorian tale. As part of the build up to our writing, we have broken down the key stages of a chapter into 5 key scenes- to help us remember them we tweeted (hashtagged#) each main event. We then completed a mannequin challenge in which we freeze framed each key scene with our hashtags! We think we did quite well...#Year5 #Writing #wedidit #streetchild

Year 5 test Gravity , by Miss Percival

Date: 24th Nov 2017 @ 7:57am

In 5P we have been looking at forces. In this lesson we were testing to see if there is a link between the weight of Gravity and Mass (Kg). Using a Newton metre we weighed different classroom objects to see how much they weighed in Newtons. We then measured the mass of objects in grams. In our results table it soon became clear that there was a link! For every 100 g of Mass there is a weight of 1N. We enjoyed testing and investigating!
