Christmas fair: Enterprise topic, by Mrs Rudd

All children worked hard to create tags, cards and treats for the Christmas fair.  They also worked hard to create newspaper articles about homelessness, persuasive posters and leaflets about our chosen charity.  Thank you to all the support that was shown at the fair; we were able to raise a lot of money for The Booth Centre who support rough sleepers in Manchester.

Problem Solving, by Mrs Rudd

Problem Solving, Reasoning and Fluency are central to the new primary curriculum.  We spent the last week before Christmas taking part in activities designed to promote these skills and worked in groups.  These skills are something that we look at in every lesson but these hands on challenges helped us to develop our ability to use Maths talk and reflect on what we are doing to become successful and independent mathematical learners.

We have been working with CITC in our P.E. lessons.  As a result of this, we were asked to help decide where their charity donations would be delivered to.  We were able to choose between local and international projects.  All projects will receive some of the £400,000 donation but our votes will help determine what proportion each charity will receive.

We designed games where the users need to navigate through a maze.  We explored how we could use Scratch to create series and scenes as well as coding to move our sprites.  We used this experience to programme a game using Purple Mash software.  We have played each other's games and will go back to correct any bugs that we found.  As soon as we have done this, the games will be shared on the website!

Just Youth: Advent, by Mrs Rudd

Just Youth helped us to create a class Advent calendar that contained daily actions to help us make a positive impact during Advent and to celebrate joyfully.  We also acted out the nativity story.

Across school, children worked on a poppy projects and work was displayed in the hall as a celebration of all the fantastic work produced.

We went on a walk of the local area as part of our work on the British Values.  We carried out surveys to understand more about the issues concerning our local community.  As a result, we have written letters to our local MP.

Interview with John, by Mrs Rudd

In Year 5 and 6, we have spent a lot of time looking at homelessness in our English and Topic work.  We were able to interview "John" (a local homeless man) in order to gain a better understanding of what life is like for rough sleepers.  All children were very empathetic and showed real concern and care for all people in this situation.

In class, we spent a whole day looking at Roakd Dahl. We created new words, explored the impact of different character descriptions and even designed our own dreams for the BFG.  We took part in the school quiz and enjoyed the celebrations in the dinner hall.

After discussing the purpose of the EU, how it works and the reasons we should and shouldn't be in the EU, we voted as a school.  The results are in and the majority of pupils voted to remain in the EU.
