We have been looking at sound in science and explored what makes sounds. Using materials brought from home we made our very own musical instruments and we were rocking!

In RE we have been looking at the process of reconciliation. In groups we have acted out situations in which an apology is needed and shown the importance of forgiveness.

Interpreting data with jelly babies , by Miss Doyle

In maths we have been looking at interpreting data we conducted our own investigation to the amount of different coloured jelly babies in a packet. We worked in groups to collect the data and put it on a tally chart and a bar graph. Then the best part... we got to eat them!

Our topic in science this half term is sound. We used instruments to investigate what makes sounds and the different sounds we can make we even got to go on a sound hunt around the school listening to the different sounds we could hear.

We have been learning all about the ancient Egyptians and today we looked at the importance of the Sphinx of Giza. Using clay we made our very own Sphinx models taking into account all of the details that the Sphinx today looks like including the erosion of the face. Even though ours aren’t in the Egyptian desert we still think they look spectacular! 

Year 4 Regrowth Project , by Miss Doyle

The year 4 children have been out on the field planting a variety of different vegetables in small pots ready to be planted in the larger beds in the poly tunnel A huge thank you to the parents who came to support our regrowth project! Now roll on summer so we can see our hard work pay off! 

Computer Coding, by Miss Doyle

During our ICT lessons we got a chance to become code makers and programmers by using a programme on purple mash to create different scenes and programme the characters in these scenes to go where we wanted them too! It was really interesting to see what happens behind the scenes on websites. 

World Down Syndrome Day , by Miss Doyle

The 21st of March is a very special day ... it’s world Down syndrome day it’s a chance to raise awareness and create a voice globally advocating for the rights and wellbeing of people with Down syndrome as well as the amazing impact those close to us with Down syndrome have on our lives and our hearts! As a school we wore mismatched or different socks and in year 4 our socks were rocked and we celebrated for our friends with Down syndrome.

In english we have read the book 'Zoo' by Anthony Browne, we have looked at the pros and cons of zoos. We got in our table groups and wrote lists of the positives and negatives of the zoo taking into account the feelings of humans who visit the zoo and the animals who live there.

Collective Worship - Forgiveness, by Miss Doyle

We have been working hard to prepare a wonderful collective worship session for parents and friends of the children in year 4. On friday, we spoke about the importance of forgiveness and how God accepts us and forgives us no matter what we have done just like the father forgave the prodigal son. We also performed "blinded by your grace" by Stormzy as we found the words very fitting on the topic of forgiveness from God.

Ancient Egyptian poems , by Miss Doyle

In english, we have been looking at poetry linked to our topic work on Ancient Egypt. We have wrote poems about the process of becoming a mummy and we did not leave out the gruesome bits! We then got a chance to perform our poems to each other and the whole class!

Hunting for habitats, by Miss Doyle

In Year 4 we have been learning all about habitats in our science lessons. Today we got the chance to explore the school field and hunt for mini beasts in their habitats exploring and learning what kind of place they like to live in. We found worms, spiders, lady birds and more and we had real fun exploring the mud and banging on the ground to get the worms to come to the surface! 

La Luna animation and voice over, by Mrs Murphy

As part of their English learning, the children in years 3 and 4 wrote a voice over to match a short animation.  After all the writing, proof reading and editing had been completed, the children from all three classes went into the hall where some children were chosen to read their voice over as the animation was played.  Everyone enjoyed watching the animation and listening to the voice overs.

Our trip to Brockholes, by Miss Doyle

We were very lucky to have a trip won for us by Harvey Armstrong after he wrote a fantastic poem about his time in forest school and thanking the people's postcode lottery for their contributions towards our forest school learning. The trip was to Brockholes nature reserve where we had lots of fun we got to make and do things in the wonderful outdoors (as well as get really muddy!).

Young Voices 2018, by Miss Dobie

St Margaret Mary’s choir took part in this years Young Voices concert at the Manchester Arena. The children were joined by others schools from in and around Manchester. The children have shown great dedication and commitment in learning a range of songs and actions to perform in front of a live audience. 

The evening was a great success and everyone (including staff) had a fantastic evening and enjoyed being part of the event. Take a look at our photographs and videos from the evening.

Today, the choir performed at the Ashgrove House Care Home performing a number of well known Christmas Carols. The children definitely helped to spread joy and Christmas cheer to all the staff and residents and helped everyone to experience a happy and holy Christmas!

Today, we had a visit from Just Youth. We discussed how to prepare for advent and focused on the Advent wreath. The children learnt about the meaning of each of the candles and made their own Advent wreath.

Today, the children took part in a Diwali workshop linked to our topic of festivals of light. The children created their own Diya lamps and took part in some traditional Indian dancing.

The children listened to the Magnificat which is known as the song of Mary. The children created actions to match key lyrics from the song and performed the song using their actions.

This week in English, the children watched a tutorial on how to wrap the perfect Christmas present. In small groups, the children wrapped a present and recorded every step. Using this experience, the children will write their own set of instructions on how to wrap the perfect Christmas present.

As part of the children's topic learning, the children have learnt about the festival of light in Thailand- Loy Krathong. The children made their own Loy Krathong using bowls, tissue paper and foil. 

Creating circuits, by Miss Dobie

Our Science topic this half term is electricity. The children used batteries, bulbs, buzzers and wires to create their own circuits. The children experimented with the use of wires and what happens if you remove a wire from the circuit.
