Pupils have two hours of PE teaching timetabled each week. Through this we develop the six areas outlined in the National Curriculum. These are dance, gymnastics, athletics, games, swimming and outdoor adventurous activities. Year 6 have the opportunity to visit Hinning House Activity Centre where they take part in activities such as canoeing, rafting, walking and climbing.
The Early Years Foundation Stage children have access to outdoor play at all times. They have a range of ride on equipment; scooters, bikes and cars. They also have their own outdoor play equipment as well as games equipment such as hoops and balls to develop their motor skills. They have a weekly gymnastics or dance lesson in the Hall.
Key Stage 1 children take part in games, gymnastics and dance. External agencies also provide opportunities to learn different skills.
Key Stage 2 children take part in games, gymnastics and dance. In Year 3 and Year 4 children get the opportunity to learn to swim. Also, “Passport to Sport” provides opportunities for the children to develop their skills in different types of sports, including badminton, lacrosse and basketball.
All the children need to have a PE kit in school. We are phasing out our current PE kit that comprises navy blue shorts, emerald green t-shirts (marked with the school name & logo) and black pumps. Consequently, children are allowed to wear plain white T shirts and plain navy or black shorts that are readily available from high street stockists and supermarkets. PE Bags are available from the School Office. Parents are asked to make sure that all PE kit is clearly marked with their child’s name.
