Year 6 have been exploring different aspects of Space through practical experiments and research to answer the question “What is in our Solar System?”

Dental Nurse Visit , by Miss Howells

We had a visit from our dental nurse. She taught us all about the importance of brushing our teeth and not eating too much sugary foods. We all know how to brush our teeth properly and know that we should brush them morning and night. We spoke about going to the dentist who will check our teeth are healthy. Thank you for coming to talk to us!

Today, we had a visit from Just Youth. We learned about Our Lady St. Margaret Mary in preperation for her Feast Day. We now know that she was a nun and a very kind and loving lady. We spoke about how we can be kind and loving to our peers and adults around us. We spoke about what makes a saint and other saints in Christianity. We were each given a picture of a saint to colour in. We had a lovely time. Thank you for your visit!

Our Year 4/5 Boys football team began their league at the Manchester Tennis and Football centre. They produced some excellent performances and worked very well as a team. Well done boys!

This morning we had our collective worship, we looked at the topic of friendship and gave thanks to God for our friends and the gift to make friends.

In maths we used a concrete method in order for us to understand multiplying large numbers better. The children used to wipeboards and counters to help multiply 3 digit numbers by one digit numbers.

We are in the season of harvest to celebrate our year 5s have undertaken an art project of drawing fruits but not just from the outside but the inside too in the style of the the famous artist , Dennis Wojtkiewicz.

In our indoor PE lessons we have been doing dance, in our groups we have been planning our dance with the theme of “through the jungle”. We drew up a plan on big paper for us all to follow!

In our maths lesson we were given a special mission from the bank ... to crack some codes to help unblock people’s accounts using our rounding skills in order to find out the secret codes!

In our school the mission statement is something we all try to follow and hold in our hearts. We have been looking at ways we can follow the mission statement in our life.

We have been looking at ways in which we can show a number. We designed posters showing a number in four different ways, the standard form, the word form, the expanded form and pictorial form.

We have been looking at the story of Macbeth, we have been analysing one of the most famous scenes in the play where Macbeth and Banquo meet the three witches. In our groups we re-enacted the scene putting our own personal touch to it.

We have been using base 10 in our maths lessons when looking at place value. It gave the children a good visual when constructing numbers. 

New beginnings poem performance , by Miss Doyle

As it is the start of the year we have been looking at the wonderful poem ‘new beginning’ by Mancunian poet Tony Walsh. The poem is all about the new beginnings that start on the first day back at school. We made up actions in our table groups and performed the poem to the class giving it our own outlook and individual touch to it. 

Baking Hedgehog Bread, by Miss Howells

To celebrate Harvest we have made hedgehog bread. We began by mixing ingredience, kneading the dough and shaping the dough into hedgehog shapes. Once proved, we then used scissors to create the spikes for our hedgehog. We asked Mrs Doyle if we could use her oven and we left it to bake. We are very happy with how they have turned out, we hope they taste nice too!

Gardening for Harvest, by Miss Howells

On Thursday, we invited parents to join us for our gardening session. During our gardening session we talked about Harvest and discussed that the fruit and vegetables need water and sunlight to grow. We took turns digging and planting bulbs in the bed in our EYFS unit. We planted onions, radishes and daffodils. Thank you for joining us, we had lots of fun!

The children in Year 1 and 1/2 made a fantastic start planting in preparation for harvest. The good old Manchester weather appeared right on cue cutting the afternoon shorter than planned but children had a great time digging and planting new bulbs and flowers. We look forward to continuing the gardening next week. Thank you to all the parents who Came to support us, it is much appreciated. 

Police Visit, by Miss Howells

This term our topic is 'People Who Help Us' and we were very lucky to be visited by a policeman. He spoke about all the different ways he helps people in our community such as helping lost people and controlling traffic. We even got to see and go into his police car!

Autumn, by Miss Howells

This week we have been learning about our current season, Autumn. We have talked about autumnal colours, yellow, red, orange and brown. We have noticed that some of the leaves have already turned these colours and have fallen to the ground. We have been using our senses on autumn walks around the school. We felt the leaves crunch in our hands, we heard the wind blowing and we smelt the lovely hot dinners from the canteen. We collected some leaves along the way to create textured hedgehogs :)

Rosh Hashanah, by Miss Howells

In Reception, we talked about the Jewish festival Rosh Hashanah. We discussed why Jewish people celebrate it and we even tried the Jewish tradition of honey and apples.
