The children celebrated Chinese New Year by completing a number of activities related to the Year of the Dog and other traditional Chinese symbols.

As part of their English learning, the children in years 3 and 4 wrote a voice over to match a short animation. After all the writing, proof reading and editing had been completed, the children from all three classes went into the hall where some children were chosen to read their voice over as the animation was played. Everyone enjoyed watching the animation and listening to the voice overs.

As part of our geometry learning we have been investigating 2d shapes. We had to choose a shape, name it correctly and recall the properties of each shape.
Young Voices 2018, by Miss Dobie

St Margaret Mary’s choir took part in this years Young Voices concert at the Manchester Arena. The children were joined by others schools from in and around Manchester. The children have shown great dedication and commitment in learning a range of songs and actions to perform in front of a live audience.
The evening was a great success and everyone (including staff) had a fantastic evening and enjoyed being part of the event. Take a look at our photographs and videos from the evening.

As part of our English learning we have been exploring forms of poetry. This half term we have explored Haiku, the traditionally Japanese form of poetry which is usually linked to the theme of nature. We discussed the rhyming structure of 5, 7, 5 syllables, read lots of Haiku linked to weather, nature and natural disasters and then wrote our own. Here is a display showing the work we completed. We are very proud of our Haiku's.

Today, the choir performed at the Ashgrove House Care Home performing a number of well known Christmas Carols. The children definitely helped to spread joy and Christmas cheer to all the staff and residents and helped everyone to experience a happy and holy Christmas!
Proof reading and editing our writing, by Mrs Murphy

We each worked with a partner to develop our proof reading and editing skills. We read through our work to check for mistakes with spelling, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary and used our polishing pens to make the necessary improvements. After we were satisfied with our corrections, we recorded our final drafts.
Conductors and insulators!, by Mrs Murphy

As part of our electricity topic we have continued to explore circuits. We discussed the terms conductors and insulators and we worked together in small groups to investigate whether materials are conductors or insulators. We really enjoyed our investigation and made some interesting discoveries about materials. We discovered that all of the materials we found in and around the classroom which acted as conductors were made from metal!

As part of our computing topic we have been looking at animations. We discussed what makes a good animation and used an animation program to create a simple animation. As part of this programming process, we needed to create a simple storyboard which we will then use as the basis for our animations.

The children in Year 4 visited the Just Youth centre in Salford and had so much fun! The children learnt about different Saints through a range of role play activities, discussed what makes them a Saint and asked questions about the different Saints lives. The children reflected on their own gifts and talents and took part in a range of team building activities.

During our second lesson in the Forest School, we learnt all about hedgehogs! We found out lots of interesting facts and then we built some hedgehog hotels. It was great fun!

We have been working in the Forest School, learning about hazards in our outside environment. We also discussed some of the animals we may find in the Forest School and how we can look after them and protect them.

As part of our work in Science, we took part in a forensic science workshop. It was really interesting to learn about fingerprints, DNA, how to collect evidence and cross contamination. We used our new found knowledge to help us to solve a crime!

The whole school took part in 'Race for life' and had a great time running to raise money for an amazing cause.
The children had a great time and were all awarded a medal at the end of the race - well done to all of our fantastic children.
