Ancient Egypt, by Miss Dobie

As part of their learning during the summer term, the children have been studying Ancient Egypt. The children created fantastic projects in their own time linked to different aspects of Ancient Egypt. A huge well done to all children in producing creative and imaginative projects! 

Healthy repeating pattern fruit Kebabs, by Mrs Smith

The nursery children have been working on patterns they have been looking at many different repeating patterns, they each looked around the room to find repeating patterns, they found patterns on socks, on posters, some card games had patterns on also.

Then the children made their own repeating pattern fruit kebab, using fruits found in the story of 'The very hungry caterpillar' - which was our story of the week.

We also spoke about the importance of eating healthy foods, once they had finished they were able to eat their kebab, which they all said tasted yummy!!

The nursery enjoyed their visit from 'Freddy Fit' they took part in many different physical activities and talked about keeping healthy and how important it is to eat healthy foods and drink lots of water.

The Berlin Wall, by Mrs Rudd

We have examined the resolution to WWII and the actions that led up to the erection of the Berlin Wall. We have created our own walls that incorporate the slogans graffitied onto the wall which we will display in our classroom.  The top half is plain to represent the fact that the governments would regularly White wash the cement wall. 

Katie Morag comes to visit Year 2 , by Miss White

This half term we have been exploring many different Katie Morag stories. This week we wrote a character description about Katie Morag, describing her personality, appearance and her likes/ dislikes. Before writing our character description we had a visitit from the Isle of Struay.....it was Katie Morag!

 

Maths - Exploring Place Value , by Miss White

A key objective in year two is to understand the place value of a two - digit number. We used dienes blocks to discover all the different ways we could partion a number into tens and ones.

For example:

78 = 70 + 8

78 = 60 + 18

78 = 50 + 28

78 = 40 + 38

78 = 30 + 48

The children in year 2 love to dress up during golden time. Whether we get dressed up as a pumpkin, a princess or Albert Einstein we always have lots of fun!

We were very lucky to have a visit from Manchester City coaches. The children practised dribbling and shooting skills. It was great fun! 

World Book Day, by Miss White

We had a fantatsic day celebrating World Book Day. All the children looked wonderful and got into character.

We spent the day exploring the book 'The Day the Crayons Quit' by Drew Daywalt. The children loved this book, taking part in drama activities and writing their own letter to Duncan.

As part of our work on WWII and modern Germany, we had a German afternoon. We played German games, learnt some German phrases for our passports, took part in a quiz and tasted different German sausages.
