ELF Health and Safety Training Workshops for Parents and Carers and Workshop for children, by Mrs Hall

We were once again delighted to welcome the wonderful  ELF Health and Safety team who delivered a fantastic workshop for parents and carers on accident prevention and First Aid.

The Nursery children also had their own workshop with Elfie Bear and found out how to stay safe and sound.

This week we found out about  e safety and how to stay safe when using computers and the

Internet.

We need to be careful when using new technologies.

In the words of Smartie the Penguin:

Operation Christmas Child- shoebox appeal, by Miss Waldron

A huge thank you goes out to all those who donated shoeboxes towards the Operation Christmas Child appeal! We collected 204 boxes and the shoeboxes have now been collected and are on their way to various destinations around the world!

This week in school we have been thinking about how to be a good friend, what bullying means and carrying out a range of activities in this area. On Friday, the whole school dressed in blue in support of anti-bullying!

Remembrance - creating a memory for Nursery, by Mrs Hall

The Nursery children found out about Remembrance day and the signiicance of the poppy.

We also went to our Peace Garden and planted our own poppy seeds, and said

a prayer for those who had lost their lives in war.

Visit from the Librarian and Parent Workshop, by Mrs Hall

Mrs Welch arranged for the local Librarian to deliver a workshop to parents and

children to promote a love of reading.

The children enjoyed the story of "The Gruffalo" and were lucky enough

to receive special book parcels to take home and enjoy!

Fire Brigade visit, by Mrs Hall

To link with Bonfire Night, we were fortunate to have a visit from the Fire Brigade who talked to us about their job and what they do to help us.

They showed us the different equipment they use and the special uniform and clothes they wear to protect themselves.  They also told us how to keep safe.

We also looked at a fire engine and had the opportunity to use the fire hose! This was great fun!  We were also able to find out what it was like in the driver's cab.

The Elves visited the EYFS Unit!, by Mrs Hall

Once upon a time .... the children in the EYFS Department read the story of "The Elves and the Shoemaker."

Then, strange things began to happen!   We found that fairy doors appeared in our building and we continue to receive letters from and write back to the elves!

We made a collage of the characters and even designed and decorated shoes and made our own shoe shop!

Our work is now on display.

The month of November is being commemorated around school on the theme of Remembrance. Today each class planted poppy seeds and placed them in the peace garden. Here are some of our chaplaincy team in the peace garden with our plants.

Manchester City Wide Cross Country Finals, by Miss White

Manchester City Wide Cross Country Finals

A big congratulations to the cross country team who have competed in the Manchester cross country finals. The team took part in 3 North competitions before they competeted in the final. There were teams from across the whole of Manchester at Philip's Park for the final. It was a difficult, hilly course but the team took it in their stride and were an assett to the school.

 

We are so proud of the children for reaching the final and their effort and determination durring each race.

Last week year 6 visited the MRI hospital in Manchester. This was a very beneficial school trip, where children learned CPR and many tips on how to prevent minor accidents. As well as this, we had the opportunity to see x-rays and were given our very own plaster casts!

Year 6 poetry performance

As part of our Remembrance topic we have been looking at a range of war poetry- in particular 'Flanders Field' by John McCrae. We have been looking at the language in the poem and discussing what the imagery of the poem means. Here are some videos of us performing the poem we have been learning. 

Year 6's Romeo and Juliet, by Miss Percival

On the 1st of November 2016 Year 6 took to the stage at the Contact Theater in Manchester to perform their debut of 'Romeo and Juliet'. This Year, Year 6 took part in 'Shakespeare's School Festival' and after many weeks of preparations and rehearsals they performed the play to  families, friends and people from other schools. The night was a huge success and all of Year 6- both on stage and off- did amazingly well! Congratulations Year 6 on a fantastic show, all your hard work paid off!

This half term we have been learning about the 1960s. The children have loved learning about what life was like in the 1960s, from the schools, to the fashion and in particular the music in the 1960s. We have learnt many of the Beatles songs but the children's favourite is Yellow Submarine. To end our topic we explored 1960s fashion and made out own tie dye t-shirts. The children had great fun making these and they turned out to be amazing! The children loved doing a catwalk in the playground to show off their fantstic tie dyed t-shirts.

In class, we spent a whole day looking at Roakd Dahl. We created new words, explored the impact of different character descriptions and even designed our own dreams for the BFG.  We took part in the school quiz and enjoyed the celebrations in the dinner hall.
